Leonard Pulsford
Leonard Pulsford is the Design Engineer at Biohm. He designs and develops production methods and machinery, as well as designs, models, and optimises prototypes and systems through experimentation and simulation.
Leonard holds a MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bristol, where he honed his skills in engineering science and practice. His process is rooted in practicality, having previously worked as a CAD engineer, furniture designer, and carpenter. He was the Lead Designer of Flow, a project that earned the Smart Furniture Award in SIT Furniture Design Awards in 2021.
In 2023 he completed the Master Course in Parametric Design from Controlmad. This has enabled him to combine parametric design with engineering to explore how patterns in nature can be described mathematically and study the instances where geometry explains why these patterns arise in the first place. His work at Biohm, fuelled by transdisciplinary collaboration, has changed Leonard’s relationship to the subject of material. Instead of a library of known quantities to be manipulated and controlled, he now sees material as a fertile domain full of potential.
In addition to being a biomimetic design engineer at Biohm, Leonard is a maker, reader, and keen traveller.
