As BREEAM and LEED developed throughout the years, they have started to incorporate soft criteria that assess the wellbeing of occupants. However, in 2006, a new standard or assessment method took centre-stage in the form of the Living Building challenge (LBC) by the International Living building Institute (ILBI). It introduced the concept of regeneration or restoration as opposed to merely preventing harm. This philosophy encouraged buildings to improve and positively contribute to their immediate indoor and outdoor environments.
